JOB PURPOSE:

At H3X, we are building the most advanced electric propulsion systems in the world to enable sustainable electric aircraft. At 12 kW/kg continuous, the HPDM family of integrated motor drives is a step change in electric propulsion technology and removes one of the main barriers blocking widespread proliferation of electric aircraft. We have several power classes of motors ranging from 30kW to 3MW and are selling to markets of aviation, aerospace and defense, marine, and specialized ground vehicles.

About the Role: H3X is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support and drive improvements across all production lines by developing automated manufacturing equipment with an emphasis on mechanical and process design. As part of a fast-paced, highly technical team, the engineer will play a key role in deploying new processes, designing process architectures, and building custom equipment to meet the growing demand.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop manufacturing equipment to automate processes and improve production quality by automating intricate manual operations.
  • Design machine tooling, fixtures, assemblies, and all mechanical components required for construction and operation of the machinery.
  • Create mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics as necessary for the machining and assembly of the machinery.
  • Provide DFM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback on the product to the design teams to continually improve the manufacturability of the product.
  • Develop and maintain operation instructions, maintenance manuals and other relevant documentation required for operation and maintenance of the equipment.
  • Take ownership of equipment and process validation, ensuring the process is within specifications, repeatable and reproduceable.
  • Maintain full ownership of projects from concept to implementation of full-scale production, balancing product specifications, process requirements, complexity, cost, and lead-times.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with cross-functional team members to improve and maintain automated systems and identify, improve, and expand in-house manufacturing capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards for ergonomics, safety and maintainability.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, building, and commissioning manufacturing equipment for production lines.
  • 5+ years of CAD software experience (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of process automation technologies such as PLCs, sensors, actuators, machine vision, 6-axis or SCARA robots.
  • Familiar with industrial and commercial machinery safety and electrical standards such as ISO13849, NFPA79, and UL508A.
  • Hands-on experience with machining (CNC, milling, additive).
  • Highly proficient in creating mechanical designs that are optimized for machining, assembly, reliability and maintenance.
  • Advanced ability to interpret and apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standard.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized and strong attention to detail.
  • Advanced understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • Action biased, results-driven mentality.
  • Willingness to learn quickly.
  • A high degree of emotional intelligence: ability to collaborate closely with coworkers in a respectful and empathetic manner.
  • Fundamentally curious and motivated by first principles.
  • Position requires access to CUI/ITAR/EAR controlled information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer
  • Familiar with process validation principles such as Gauge R&R, Cp, Cpk studies.
  • Experience in power distribution, control cabinet design and creating schematics.
  • Familiar with PLC programming.
  • Familiar with Lean manufacturing practices, Six Sigma and Statistical Process Control.
  • Experience manufacturing electric motors, inverters, or other mechatronic assemblies
  • Experience working in a startup environment

Salary Range: $100,000-180,000 per year (Jr. to Staff Levels)

Benefits:

  • Employee equity incentive plan
  • Health insurance: medical, vision, dental, short-term disability, and life
  • Gym membership stipend (up to $60/month)
  • Flexible hours (deliverable-based goals)
  • Flexible-time off (just need manager approval)
  • Relocation package
  • Epic or IKON Ski/Snowboard Pass (up to $869 provided)
  • Bi-weekly company events
